How’s everyone doing with this year’s Storm of the Century?

Doesn’t look too bad here in B-lo; a bunch of rain and some wind. I might have to bring some of the kid’s toys inside, but that’s about it. How ’bout you?

Flashback

Thursday, October 25th, 2012

I was cleaning out the “pending┬ácomments that are almost definitely spam” reservoir and I ended up rereading this post. The bit about the dog in the comments has me laughing like an idiot all over again.

Hockey

Thursday, October 25th, 2012

So, I’m taking Dean to his first hockey game tonight; it’s the Canisius home opener, against (I think) Air Force.

So far he’s been to a baseball game, which he loved, and a field lacrosse game, which he wasn’t crazy about. I hope the novelty of the ice keeps his attention for at least a couple of periods.

Foreclosure Auction

Friday, October 19th, 2012

The city foreclosure auction on delinquent properties is coming up at the end of the month. Though the numbers are down from last year, there are still nearly 5,000 properties on the list to be auctioned off over three days. If you’ve ever wanted a Bart Simpson style dilapidated warehouse, or a chance to be an absentee slumlord, this is your chance!

Central Office

Tuesday, October 16th, 2012

Shockingly enough, it appears that administrative staff who spend their entire careers inside of a broken, dysfunctional school system may end up prolonging and preserving that dysfunction.

I really, really hope that the state is as serious as it seems about overhauling the BPS. Because, frankly, spending $23k a year per student on a system that can’t even manage to graduate half its students is ludicrous.

Bicycles outselling cars…in Italy.

Thursday, October 4th, 2012

A combination of ultra-high inflation, draconian (by some measures) cost-cutting, and a recession that just won’t quit, is causing many Italians to shave 2 wheels off of their preferred mode of transportation.

Love the conspiracy theory comments, too.

Changing a 460 with two-by-fours

The wrap- up video for the 24 Hours Of LeMons South Fall race at CMP. Los Tunachuckers finished in the back, again, but managed to bring home (yet another) heroic fix trophy for our engine repairs.

Honest Toddler

Monday, October 1st, 2012

I’m not generally a big fan of The Twitter, but this feed from “Honest Toddler” is genius.

Toddler Tip: If you put 8 or 9 batteries in a toilet it will not become a robot. Don’t ask how I know just listen.

Political Dealbreakers

Monday, October 1st, 2012

An interesting article at The Atlantic, entitled “Why I Refuse To Vote For Barack Obama“: the writer finds the current President’s continuing infringements of civil liberties, along with the drone attacks and “kill list”, to be a dealbreaker and plans to vote for Gary Johnson instead.

It would be nice if Johnson would actually campaign on this sort of thing. I imagine it would be more beneficial than his current strategy, which seems to be hammering on marijuana legalization and little else.
