This is fantastic. I just stumbled upon this guy’s work, and I think I need to find more of it.

Here’s another great parody from a bit further back in time.

By the way, if any of this seems familiar, McCall contributed to National Lampoon, which came up with the “Vacation” movie- including one very parody-tastic Wagon Queen creation.

Hey matt, what’s up with the edit function in Chrome? I can’t see what I’m typing, or insert links or resize pictures, or, well….

Cypriot Banking

Tuesday, March 19th, 2013

Looks like bank depositors in Cyprus are going to be getting a haircut. In exchange for a significant bailout of their banking infrastructure, the ECB is requiring that a percentage of deposited funds be taken from every account held in Cyprus and used to partially fund the bailout.

On the up side, there’s this: “Depositors will get bank stock equal to whatever they lose from the tax”.

That’s a better deal than we got for the government bank bailouts here. AIG got billions and the taxpayers who footed the bill got a stick in the eye.

Wooden Skyscrapers

Concrete and steel are so energy-intensive to work with. Why don’t we just build large towers out of wood instead?

Happy Pi Day!

Mmmmmm….pi pie.

And, there’s a new Pope in Rome, too!  I wonder if he likes pi[e]…

Bike Bags

Thursday, March 7th, 2013

If anyone’s looking for bicycle bags, Woot is having a pretty good sale right now. I just ordered myself one of the Teeco Too panniers to replace my super-awkward ones.

It’s official: UN sanctions against North Korea were approved.

Duck and Cover!

Wednesday, March 6th, 2013

I haven’t been able to turn on the radio or television for the past couple of days without hearing about Super Storm Saturn, the Alberta Clipper that’s been bearing down through the Midwest on it’s track out to the Atlantic Ocean. It hit the Baltimore/ Washington area sometime this morning.

I woke up to what will hopefully be the last big, wet, sloppy, doggy kiss of this winter season. And I was not impressed. There was perhaps an inch of snow on the grass, and the roads were just wet. Some form of precipitation was oozing out of the clouds- could have been rain, could have been snow, could have been ice- but the drive in to work was as uneventful as normal.

Of course, every school was closed, and all of the non-essential- I mean, “Non-Emergency” government employees had the day off, too. What a scam.

Michigan Takes Over

Monday, March 4th, 2013

The city of Detroit will be taken over by an emergency manager appointed by Michigan Governor Rick Snyder.

On the one hand, this might actually help them recover from decades of corruption and poor governance. Both Buffalo and Erie County were put under the control of a state agency, and emerged from it with a much better financial outlook.

On the other, it’s pretty dispiriting that a city this large will be operating under an unelected administration.

Good luck.
