It looks like the long-awaited NYC bike share program, the Citibank-sponsored Citibike, is finally up and running. There are some cool details on the docks and the system as a whole available on Giz.

Bicycle Lawnmowing

Thursday, May 16th, 2013

Seeing as how I live on a small lot, I don’t really need to build one of these.

However, it seems to me that I know someone with a large lawn and some extra bicycles lying around…

I was perusing the cabinets in the kitchen at the office today, looking for a non-disposable beverage container, when I discovered this:

I love the headline of this article:

“UB grads urged to ‘find a better way’ to connect with communities they serve ”

Light Show

Thursday, May 9th, 2013

After years of calls to demolish them, the grain elevators of the Buffalo waterfront as being repurposed — as screens for a giant light show.

Shirt Designs 2013

Friday, May 3rd, 2013

Here are the submissions that I received for this year’s SAPS shirt design. Each one is tagged with a name, which corresponds to an entry in the voting booth. To vote for your favorite, go to the end of this post and make your selection. Please don’t just post your vote as a comment, because then I don’t know whether or not you also used the voting booth. Please note that each of the images in this post is a thumbnail; if you’d like to see more detail, where available, just click on the picture and a larger version will load.

Whichever design has the most votes by midnight on May 19 will be the winner, and will go on the t-shirts that Super Atomic Pedal Squadron wears in this year’s ride.

So, without further ado, here’s our contestants:

Cancer Punch

Orange Slant

Purple Circle

Purple Gear

Please, pass the URL for this far and wide – email, Facebook, etc. Not only is it good publicity for the team, and a good chance for fundraising, but I’d like to get a lot of input and a lot of votes. And I’m sure that some of you are dying for a chance to stuff the ballot box.

Which design should SAPS wear for Ride for Roswell 2013?

  • Purple Gear (49%, 71 Votes)
  • SAPSzilla (40%, 59 Votes)
  • Cancer Punch (5%, 8 Votes)
  • SAPS D (2%, 3 Votes)

It looks like the “big guys break spokes” rule has made it to the NYC bike share program — riders over 260 pounds are barred in the contract from riding the bikes.
