Engineering Higher Ed

Only two percent of college presidents have an Engineering degree – and yet, who do we look to when we need big problems solved? Engineers.

Maybe this will help.

I’m somewhat skeptical. Engineers don’t always make good leaders. They make good problem solvers- when problems are definable and results are achievable. Metrics don’t always work when you start talking about fuzzy goals like “improved learning” and the like. Still, its not like engineers are going to take academia by storm (most of them are too busy doing real jobs and making better money). A little engineering influence over the lib arts majority in academia might be a good thing.
