Casino Hangover

So, it’s been ten years since the city of Niagara Falls agreed to let the Senecas turn their convention center into a casino. How’s that working out for them?

Poorly.

Apparently, building a giant, untaxed money vacuum in the middle of a post-industrial and economically depressed city doesn’t help matters. I’m certainly glad that construction is continuing apace in downtown Buffalo, especially since it’s right across the street from an enormous public housing complex. That should help.

So, tax dollars will be used to provide benefits to poor people, who will turn around and gamble that money away at a casino, sending the money to the wealthy casino owners. Yup, sounds about normal.

Money always ends up back in the pockets where it’s going to go. All you can change is the way it gets there.
